:: Hunter Valley Avicultural Society History
The Hunter Valley Avicultural Society Inc was formed in 1988 by Victor Simpson and Shirley Gardner. The first President was Wayne Dempsey who also financed the club for the first twelve months. Alan Woods, Russell Mcallister, Tony Pyne, Alex Badior, Bruce Brown, Bill Conners, Anthony Catt and Steve Oliver were some of the foundation members.
The meetings were held for the first two years at the Cessnock Tennis Club, and then after changing venues several times finally settled on Abermain Bowling Club in 1990 where it stayed until March 2005. Russell Mcallister and Bruce Brown are two of the most recognized people in their fields and Russell has spoken at several Conventions throughout Australia.
The aim of the club is to promote all areas of Aviculture, especially in the keeping and proper care of Birds in the Lower Hunter Valley region.
